Occupy Wall Street: Us Versus Them

A row of students sit, shaking in an frightened resilience. A man in full uniform paces along the line of youth, and is passed a red can. As he reaches one end of the line, hesitation strikes. A brief, but absolute, moment stops this man from spraying the protesters. After this respite from madness, duty envelopes the man as his hand clenches the handle of the noxious spray. Such was the scene at UC Davis a few weeks ago, when videos from every angle flooded the media. Continue Reading

Facing the Grittiness of the World at Home and at School

Posted on 23 January 2012

By Ryan Marotta

When the Holiday seasons approaches and the semester draws to a close, we students have a tendency to retreat into ourselves. We lock the doors, shut the windows, and isolate ourselves from the rest of society, all so that we can spend many sleepless nights studying and working on last-minutes papers. But we never fully emerge from this shell, even after we hand in our last exam and head home. We dive headfirst into the self-centeredness of our break, seeing our “me-time” as something both well-deserved and desperately needed. Continue Reading

“The Earth is the cradle of humankind, but one cannot live in the cradle forever.” These famous words of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky mustberesoundingintheminds of scientists who have launched Curiosity to planet Mars on November 26. If everything goes as planned, the Mars rover Curiosity would land on the Gale Crater of the Mars on 5th August, 2012 after travelling eight and a half month and 550 million kilometers in space. A new era of space exploration is ushering. Continue Reading

Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge

Posted on 23 January 2012

By Yarleen Hernandez
Staff Writer ’13

I had a chance to catch “Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge” on November 19th at 7pm. Although it was the show’s sixth and final performance, there were over 40 people in attendance. “Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge” is a comedic spoof referencing some classic Christmas stories such as Charles Dickens’ timeless tale “A Christmas Carol,” Frank Capra’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” and O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi.” The play also makes references to Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” “The Old Curiosity Shop” and John Masius’ “Touched By An Angel.” Continue Reading

Immortals Review

Posted on 23 January 2012

By Virendra Goolcharan

At this point in my cinematic ventures, I should be entirely numb to the slew of movies released for the sole purpose of making a profit. “Immortals,” much to my disdain, is one such movie. The lack of a solid story, use of terrible cinematography, and poor acting are absolute evidence of this. Continue Reading

Stellar Eats in Jersey City

Posted on 23 January 2012

James Driscoll

While many college students complain about the cafeterias and food available to them around their campuses, Saint Peter’s College students don’t have to worry about this. While Sodexo does their best (sometimes) to please the students, one of the advantages about coming to Saint Peter’s is the many places to eat within a couple miles. Trust me, these places made me proud to gain the “Freshman 15” and keep it there.

Many chain and fast-food restaurants like Taco Bell, Dunkin Donuts, and Applebee’s are located down on 440. In addition to these restaurants, Jersey City is home to many exclusive establishments. The Brownstone Diner, Hollywood Fried Chicken, Prince of Pizza, Old Peking, V.I.P. Diner, White Manor, Park Tavern, and Wonder Bagel are all local spots unique to Jersey City.  Continue Reading

The 2011 MAAC Champions are back to business. While the Peacocks have gone 1-4 in their first four starts, the team has faced all out of conference opponents. The team lost many key seniors from last year including Nick Leon, Ryan Bacon, and Jeron Belin. However, this year’s team has already shown promise. Continue Reading

The Peacocks swimming season started on October 21st at the Sonny Werblin Invitational. Both men’s and women’s teams started the invitational with great performances in all categories.

For the Peacocks Valerijs Lebedevs, Ayburk Ozturk, and Captain Peter Jimenez each took home individual wins. Jonathan Pitre also contributed by winning the 100 meter diving competition and two relay teams placed first and third in the 400 medley relays. The Peahens were competing against powerhouses Rutgers and Southern Connecticut, but shined nonetheless. Continue Reading

Status Update

Posted on 06 November 2011

On October 26, after a long wait, the Saint Peter’s College community witnessed the groundbreaking of the Mac Mahon Student Center. The students, faculty, school administrators, and the Jersey City community alike have high expectations from the Center .

The building will feature upgraded facilities like spaces for the student clubs and organizations, spacious dining areas, conference rooms, college store, outdoor cafeteria, courtyard area, recreational facility and game room amongst others. The Offices of Campus Ministry and Student Activities will also move to the new building upon its completion aimed for Spring 2013. We are hopeful that this not only means the upgrade in facilities, but also in terms of the quality of the services. President Eugene Cornacchia mentioned in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony that Continue Reading

Occupy Wall Street, Grow Up!

Times are bad. Living costs are rising across the nation while there are no jobs out there; the rich are getting richer and the poor even poorer. Everyone is drowned in the dark black sea of hopelessness and no one has any clue what to do. There’s just too much frustration in the main street and the same is being displayed in the streets through the Occupy Wall Street movement. Continue Reading

On October 5th of this year, the world was met with the tragic news of Steve Jobs’ untimely death. Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003 and had been fighting to stay alive ever since. People from all over the world grieved the loss of this extraordinary mind and it is a fact that many of those people, including myself, discovered the news through their iPhones, iPads, or iMacs. New York Comic Con: An Overview

I’ve mentioned many times before that I consider myself a nerd defined as “a person with strange, specific obsessions.” When I was much younger, I felt different compared to those around me for these obsessions. All of this changed when I entered my first Comic Con during my youth. Continue Reading

Argus Eyes Presents: Insanatorium

Argus Eyes has done it again but this time, they’ve brought along their loony patients to make us laugh to death. Insanatorium took place on October 27th at the Roy Irving Theater and once again included the Argus Eyes chorus, improv troupe and the SPC dance team. It was a full house. All of the performers from the previous variety show made their scary appearances and dressed in clothing right out of a psych ward. Continue Reading

From a runway across the gym to hosting its own fashion week, Saint Peter’s College’s F.A.M.E club has a lot in store for this academic year.

F.A.M.E stands for Fashion And Modeling Entertainment. F.A.M.E has a variety of events they are planning to host this year. One of them is a fashion week this semester. Some programs planned during the fashion week are a movie night, a trip to the Fashion Museum in New York City and a make-up session featuring a representative from Mary Kay. Some other events planned for this year include another fashion week next semester along with the annual fashion show. Continue Reading

If you are looking for a movie to make you hold the person next to you, cringing at what’s coming next, Paranormal Activity 3 is the movie to see. Personally, I am not frightened very easily and I find it hard to actually get scared when watching movies. Along with The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Paranormal Activity 3 adds to the list of movies that have truly scared me. It will definitely have you on the edge of your seat, nervous about what happens next. Continue Reading

Movie Review: 50/50

At first glance, the trailers and clips from the film “50/50” look like your stereotypical Bromantic Comedy in the vein of movies such as “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express.” “50/50,” however, finds something beautiful in the equation of two best friends facing a dilemma together and brings to light the fact that these movies can have dramatic overtones behind all the laughs. The Quantum Revolution

“My own suspicion is that the universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose.” This saying of J.B.S. Haldane, a renowned biologist, manifests most beautifully in the quantum world. The quantum world is one of those places where classical notions are broken and revolutionary ideas overrule and ,most importantly, there is no stepping back.
